Dr. Gregory Nelson Leads the Region in Offering Oxford Cementless Partial Knee replacement

Local board-certified, fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon
Dr. Gregory Nelson performs the Oxford Cementless Partial Knee replacement, now available in St. Louis. Partial knee replacement helps alleviate pain in patients with arthritis affecting only one part of the knee. Dr. Nelson is available to see patients at Orthopedic Associates’ main office, located at 1050 Old Des Peres Road, Suite 100. Patients in need of experienced, specialized knee care are encouraged to call 314-569-0616 to schedule an appointment at Orthopedic Associates.

The Oxford Cementless Partial Knee procedure is a breakthrough in knee arthritis care, offering a bone-preserving, minimally invasive option with superior durability compared to other implants. With greater than 95% success rates in long-term outcome studies, it is the only cementless partial knee replacement approved by the Food and Drug Administration and available in the U.S. This innovative technology gives patients a new path to better mobility with a faster recovery than traditional knee replacement. Some of its benefits include:

  • Cementless design: Allows the bone to fuse to the implant for long-term stability and avoids cement-related issues, like loosening, cement debris and inflammation.
  • Bone and ligament preservation: Maintains more of the patient’s natural knee for better function and a more natural feel.
  • Less invasive: Smaller incisions and less tissue disruption means less pain and a faster recovery, achieved with a same-day surgery.
  • Easy revisions: If needed, converting to a total knee replacement is typically simpler than revising a full knee replacement.

“We are dedicated to offering area patients the most advanced orthopedic solutions for the best possible results at Orthopedic Associates," said Dr. Nelson. “This innovative partial knee option offers real advantages, and I'm excited to make it available to the people we care for in our community.”

After graduating from Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, Dr. Nelson attended Yale University School of Medicine in New Haven, Connecticut, receiving his Doctor of Medicine and his Master of Health Science degrees. After completing his orthopedic surgery residency at Washington University and Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Dr. Nelson further refined his skills through a fellowship at The Rothman Orthopaedic Institute at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia.
