Orthopedic Associates Safely Resumes Performing Elective Surgeries

As of May 4, the specialty-trained surgeons at Orthopedic Associates have resumed scheduled, nonemergency orthopedic surgery for their patients at Des Peres Square Surgery Center. Medical supply levels in the St. Louis area now allow surgery centers to resume these less urgent, but still necessary, procedures safely. Hospitals will soon be resuming these surgeries as well. Orthopedic Associates therefore can now offer the full scale of needed surgical treatments in a safe and appropriate manner. In addition, the practice continues to provide in-office care while continuing to follow health authority safety guidelines to protect their patients and staff. Patients in need of specialized bone, joint, ligament, tendon and muscle care are encouraged to call (314) 569-0616 to schedule a safe appointment at the practice’s main office in St. Louis, at 1050 Old Des Peres Road, Suite 100. Telemedicine appointments are also available.

“Surgery for nonemergent conditions was halted in order to conserve the supply of personal protective equipment, which is used for every surgery,” says Dr. Ryan Pitts, board-certified, fellowship-trained sports medicine surgeon at Orthopedic Associates. “As the situation has stabilized, medical resources and supplies have also stabilized. This allows the important but less urgent procedures to now proceed safely. As such, we are now resuming these surgeries so our patients no longer have to wait for the specialized orthopedic care they need.”

The practice continues to adhere to the strict protocols they have in place to help prevent the spread of COVID-19 in their office. These protocols extend to both pre- and postoperative care in addition to the standard sterile measures taken in operating rooms.

Orthopedic Associates provides surgical care in the state-of-the-art operating rooms of Des Peres Square Surgery Center at 1050 Old Des Peres Road, Suite 150, in St. Louis. Their surgeons and specialized medical staff strictly follow the latest and highest standards in patient safety and take extra precautions. Additional patient screening processes are enforced before scheduling and performing surgery as well to ensure patient safety.

“We’re proud of our local and regional communities for working together to combat the spread of COVID-19 and support our local, frontline health care workers,” says Dr. Pitts. “These efforts have helped reduce the strain on our health system, and we are happy to once again be able to offer our patients safe surgical treatment, in addition to continued nonsurgical treatment when appropriate, to ease their pain and help them regain their function and strength.”

While Orthopedic Associates resumes scheduling patients for elective surgery as well as initial and follow-up appointments in their office, their providers also offer telemedicine visits to provide remote consultation for bone, joint and muscle problems.
