Wide-Awake Carpal Tunnel Procedure
At Orthopedic Associates, we are committed to bringing our patients the latest innovations in surgical care. We’re proud to offer UltraGuideCTR™, a state-of-the-art approach to carpal tunnel release that uses real-time ultrasound guidance for improved precision, smaller incisions, and a faster recovery.
Fellowship-trained and board-certified in hand and upper extremity care, Dr. William Feinstein specializes in this minimally invasive technique to help patients experience immediate hand mobility and a quicker return to normal activity.
What Is Carpal Tunnel Syndrome?
Carpal tunnel syndrome occurs when the median nerve—which runs from the forearm into the hand—becomes compressed as it passes through the wrist. This pressure can lead to pain, numbness, tingling, or weakness in the hand and fingers.
To relieve this nerve compression, surgeons perform a carpal tunnel release (CTR) procedure, which creates more space in the carpal tunnel and reduces pressure on the nerve.

Patient Education Center
Dedicated to providing you with the information you need to understand your condition and care options, we offer a comprehensive online patient education center.
What Makes UltraGuideCTR Different?
UltraGuideCTR enables Dr. Feinstein to perform carpal tunnel release using ultrasound imaging to clearly visualize your hand and wrist anatomy in real time. This enhanced accuracy helps protect surrounding structures while allowing for a smaller, more targeted incision.
Compared to traditional open surgery, wide-awake carpal tunnel release using UltraGuideCTR offers patients a significantly shorter recovery timeline—often returning to work or daily activities within just 3 to 6 days.
Benefits of carpal tunnel release procedures with UltraGuideCTR include:

Faster return to work and normal activities

Minimally invasive: small incision, often no sutures required

Little to no postoperative pain medication needed

Immediate use of the hand after surgery
SUPERIOR ACCESS TO EXCEPTIONAL HAND & WRIST CARE
Dr. Feinstein is not only board-certified and fellowship-trained as an orthopedic hand surgeon, but he has also completed additional training to utilize the state-of-the-art UltraGuideCTR device. He is available to see patients at our Main Office in St. Louis and at our satellite location in Columbia.
